Who we are
Freepublicrecords.us (“the Site”) is a free public-records resource and directory. We help visitors understand how to search and request public records — including court, property, and government records — and we may earn a commission when visitors use third-party services we link to, such as Spokeo. Our website address is https://freepublicrecords.us.
Information we collect
We keep data collection minimal. We collect information in the following circumstances:
- Comments. When you leave a comment, we collect the data shown in the comment form, along with your IP address and browser user-agent string to help with spam detection.
- Analytics. We use Google Analytics and Google Tag Manager (via Google Site Kit) to understand aggregate site usage — pages visited, approximate location, device and browser type, and referral sources. This data is processed by Google.
- Affiliate links. Some links on the Site lead to third-party services such as Spokeo. When you click these links, the third party may use cookies or other tracking technologies, and we may receive a commission. We do not receive your search details or the personal information you provide to those services.
Cookies
- If you leave a comment, you may opt in to saving your name, email address, and website in cookies. These last for one year and are for your convenience.
- We set a temporary cookie on the login page to check whether your browser accepts cookies. It contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.
- When you log in, we set cookies to save your login information and screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days; screen-option cookies last for a year. Selecting “Remember Me” keeps you logged in for two weeks. Logging out removes the login cookies.
- If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie is saved that stores only the post ID of the article you edited, and it expires after one day.
- Third parties such as Google and our affiliate partners may set their own cookies; their use is governed by their own privacy policies.
Embedded content from other websites
Articles on the Site may include embedded content (videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the same way as if you had visited the other website directly. Those websites may collect data about you, use cookies, add third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with the embedded content.
Who we share your data with
We do not sell your personal information. We share data only as necessary to operate the Site:
- Spam-detection services may review visitor comments.
- Analytics data is processed by Google.
- If you request a password reset, your IP address is included in the reset email.
- When you click affiliate or third-party links, those services collect data under their own policies.
How long we retain your data
- Comments and their metadata are retained indefinitely so we can recognize and approve follow-up comments automatically.
- For registered users (if any), we store the personal information in their user profile. Users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time, except their username. Administrators can also see and edit that information.
Your rights over your data
If you have an account or have left comments, you can request an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, and you can ask us to erase it. Children’s privacy
The Site is a general-audience resource about public records and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
